All events are open to carers registered with VOCAL who live or care for someone in Edinburgh or Midlothian.
Many carers experience social isolation as they spend more time caring for someone. These events are an opportunity for you to take time for yourself and meet others in a similar situation.
You can also learn valuable information on how to manage your caring responsibilities. Our events cover a range of topics, such as:
- Money and benefits
- Understanding illnesses, disabilities or conditions like dementia or autism
- How to focus on your own wellbeing as a carer
- Practical skills for supporting someone with their condition, such as information on continence or moving and handling
- Planning for the future or for emergencies
- Household adaptations and equipment, and other practical support
- Collaborations with partner organisations such as Ace IT, Age Scotland, or the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland
If you are interested in joining one of our events, you can find out more and sign up on our Carer Training website.
Working carer sessions
We host monthly online sessions for carers to meet in a safe environment to discuss challenges, learn from others and seek support.
Each session has a different theme from carers rights to making a flexible working request. We are also guided by session participants and interactive discussions.
They are open to carers living in and/or caring for a person in Edinburgh and Midlothian, and usually take place in the evenings.
