The plan sets out your personal outcomes, identified needs and any support to be provided.

VOCAL can support you with writing an ACSP. Local authorities also have a duty to prepare an ACSP for any carer who requests one, or anyone they identify as a carer. The process starts with a conversation where you discuss your caring role and what is important in your life.

Outcomes could include:

  • Being as well as you can be
  • Feeling valued
  • Feeling informed
  • Having a life outside of caring
  • Being listened to

Types of support could include:

  • Information and advice
  • Welfare rights and advocacy
  • Carer cafes and support groups
  • Short breaks or respite
  • Counselling or one-to-one support
  • Relaxation therapies or stress management support
  • Carer training courses
  • Leisure activities like walking, singing, or art groups

Why Adult Carer Support Plans are important

An ACSP helps you to think about what support you might need if you wish to continue caring, and what could help you to have a life alongside caring. The plan sets out your needs and how they will be met.

Making an ACSP also helps to show which level of support you can access, according to your local eligibility criteria. No matter what level of support you are eligible for, all carers can access information and support from their local carer centre.
