Today, Monday 10 March 2025, marks the start of a new funding opportunity in Midlothian: our Carer Community Fund! This initiative is led by VOCAL Midlothian, and funded by the Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership. The fund will distribute direct grants of up to £3,000 to community organisations, enabling them to deliver local support services for unpaid carers.
We aim to:
- Improve opportunities and access for carers by increasing small organisations’ capacity to support them
- Help community groups to grow through financial resources
- Encourage the establishment of longer-term support networks that can continue to support carers
Some potential areas for funding include, but are not limited to:
- Peer support groups to reduce social isolation
- Inclusive events to allow carers to attend fun outings without having to worry about finding replacement care
- Carer-only activities where carers can meet others in a similar situation
- Training on care skills such as first aid or health and safety in the home
If you work with a small or community organisation in Midlothian and would like to enhance your support services for unpaid carers, why not apply? Visit our Carer Community Fund webpage for the full application form and guidance.
We also encourage applicants to discuss their proposals beforehand with our Midlothian Community Development Officer. To make a pre-application discussion appointment, please contact or 0131 663 6869.
